$30 billion more for Israel - while Americans are losing their homes

"The US Congress has approved a 170 million dollar increase in security assistance to Israel as part of its new 10-year, 30 billion dollar defense aid commitment to the Jewish state. The money for Israel was part of a larger supplemental spending bill that included 162 billion dollars for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The legislation gained final approval in a 92-6 Senate vote late Thursday. America's pro-Israel lobby, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, welcomed the congressional action, saying it would increase US aid to Israel to 2.55 billion dollars in fiscal year 2009, up from 2.38 billion dollars this year. "The US commitment to maintaining Israel's qualitative military edge is the cornerstone of American policy in the region," AIPAC said in a statement Friday.

It has nothing to do with "lobby", but with the US real interests in the ME and elsewhere. Any case' Israel pays back you $$$$ and donates hers virtue, knowledge and capacity to the US. Hundreds of new scientific, technological and military developments are shifted annually to the US military industry, Universities and scientific compounds.
Both relationships are beneficial.

AIPAC is a lobby. It lobbies on behalf of the interests of Israel - not America.

Outside of theological interests among Zionists, Jews, and some evangelicals - there relationship with Israel is entirely one-sided - Israel's.

No no no! Have the people voting for this BEEN to Israel? Because I have, and I've seen how rich they are, and I've been to the West Bank, and seen how poor THEY are. Why are we donating so much money to a country with horrific human rights violations and terrorism and bullying? Listening to the sorts of things done to my brother-in-law, a Palestinian Refugee, when he was in "administrative detention" (ie - they threw him in jail without ever charging him with anything despite the fact that he was a college English major and never participated in politics of any sort), I cannot say Israel is a good country. We should NOT be giving it money. The American stance on Israel sickens me.
